Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the United States strengthens U.S. manufacturing. Rising to nearly $1.7 trillion in 2018, manufacturing accounted for almost half of cumulative FDI in the United States. International companies operating in the United States employ over 2.5 million U.S. workers in the manufacturing sector, which is 20 percent of all manufacturing jobs in the country. In fact, international companies have created 62 percent of all new U.S. manufacturing jobs in the past five years.
